From the book "Chemical Technology, Part II" 1895. http://books.google.com/books?id=J9DNAAAAMAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=books.google.com+%22Chemical+*%22++ebook+1895&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Ug1LU6_2HKatsASFk4C4Dg&ved=0CEkQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q&f=false. Read pages 286 - 291. Not all you read today from so-called kerosene lamp "experts" is correct. Written during the greatest period of lamp development. It dispels some of the modern dogma concerning Kerosene lighting. I found the interesting parts to be wick construction, flash point of fuels and lamp explosions.
I even had the book reprinted by the Espresso machine at the Harvard Book Store to keep as a handy reference. Inexpensive and excellent quality. Available here: http://net.ondemandbooks.com/google/0sbNAAAAMAAJ
